Twelve Months isnât your typical Harry Dresden book. After the chaos in Battle Ground, the 18th Dresden Files feels more reflective and slower-paced. It really focuses on grief and healing after losing so many characters in the last story, and it shows how Chicago now knows that monsters under the bed are very real. I think this makes the story feel more human and relatable, and it humanizes both Harry Dresden and the wider world that Butcher has created.
I personally recommend this book because I really enjoyed how different it was from the usual fast action. It gave me time to think and connect with the characters on a deeper level. Plus, I loved the way it set up new stories while tying up some old threads. Honestly, I liked it so much that I couldnât put it down! đ
Chicago is basically in ruins, with no power, no running water, and no sewage. Nothing of modern life remains. While the city tries to recover and rebuild, both supernatural and human forces are waiting to take advantage. Twelve Months feels like a series of short stories or vignettes loosely connected. Dresden has to deal with the arranged marriage between Winter and the White Court, rescue and heal Thomas Raith, and handle an angry White Council. There are side plots with protestors, counter-protestors (some blaming Dresden, others seeking his help), and a threat from the Black Council.
Butcher has a lot of balls in the air, but they all connect. They reflect Dresdenâs emotional struggles and also bring together some storylines from earlier books. In many ways, Twelve Months is a bridge between the last two books and hints at where the story is headed next.
Even though the pace is slower than usual for Dresden, it really works. I loved the new characters and the way some old enemies who werenât fully dealt with in Battle Ground make a return. It has me super excited for the next book! đ
I highly recommend this one if youâre a Dresden fan or just enjoy well-written fantasy. Itâs a beautifully crafted story that made me think and feel a lot. I really enjoyed it and think you will too!
After the release of the previous Dresden novel âBattlegroundâ it was quiet on the next installment âTwelve monthsâ which finally arrived this year. Another one is planned in May which based upon the strength of this book I already pre-ordered.
After the Battle for Chicago Harry Copperfield Dresden needs time to heal physically and mentally. His loss was major both in love and family.
Harry finds himself drawing closer to Maggie his daughter, has been told to get married to Lara Raith of the white vampire clan. Which is the last thing he expected but Mabâs word is very demanding. Harry has his brother who is mortally wounded in a safe place but hĂŠ owns a debt of honor.
These 12 months Harry recovers and becomes a different wizard even if hĂŠ remains as annoying as ever for the world around him, also very humble as well as a person.
Before the book is over you will encounter very emotional scènes, magical scènes and a brilliant confrontation in which we recognize that Harry Dresden wizard for hire, has become Harry Dresden defender of people, father, teacher and to be married.
