There’s only one thing I ask of you: leave the army behind and head to Telluride.
My little sister Ella is raising the twins on her own now. She’s fiercely independent and stubborn when it comes to accepting help, but she’s lost so much — our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s just too much for anyone to carry. It’s not fair.
And here’s the harsh truth: there’s something else she doesn’t know, something that’s tearing her family apart from the inside. She’s going to need support.
If I’m gone, I can’t be there for Ella. I can’t help them through this. But you can. So I’m pleading with you, as my closest friend — take care of my sister, my family.
Don’t let her face this alone.
Ryan

https://amzn.to/4cQ9SbL āļøāļøāļøāļøāļøI got a free copy through InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
5 stars — It takes a lot to get a full 5 from me these days. I’m not one to give perfect ratings easily. 4.5 rounded up? Maybe. But full 5? Yeah, that’s rare. And this book? It totally burrowed into my heart and stayed there. I kept thinking about it even when I had to put it down to do other stuff. And honestly, I wasn’t as upset when life got in the way because I enjoyed taking little breaks to reflect on what was happening with the characters. It made me brace myself for potential heartaches too.
And yes, it’s a Rebecca Yarros novel. So if you’ve read her Flight & Glory series, you already know you’re probably gonna cry — and I did. A lot. I might even hate her a little for it, no offense Ms. Yarros, but I had to fix my face with makeup after reading! šŸ˜›
She made me fall in love with these characters. And when you love, you risk getting hurt. That’s a huge theme in the story, and it’s kind of ironic that Yarros made me fall so hard and then put my heart through the wringer. There were so many characters I loved in this book.
First, there’s Ella. She’s been hurt and is super guarded, but also a total mama-bear protector. Ella was exactly what I expected — strong, vulnerable, sassy, sweet, and stubborn as heck. I got annoyed with her sometimes, but I understood why she was like that.
Then there’s Beckett. Oh, sweet Beckett. My heart ached for him more than anyone else. He’s so kind, vulnerable, earnest, and truly deserving of love. He’s been through so much, and because of how he was raised, it took him a while to see his own worth. Honestly, I was also a little annoyed with him at times — but maybe less than I was with Ella.
And the twins? They surprised me in the best way. I’ve said before I’m not really a kid person, but Colt and Maisie stole my heart. They go through so much, and yeah, they don’t always act their age, but I didn’t mind. I loved them individually, but what really got to me was how they interacted with Beckett. Watching Beckett fall in love with them too — right alongside Ella — was just beautiful. It showed how deep his heart truly was.
And I can’t forget Havoc. I LOVED what his character brought to the story and especially what he added to our understanding of Beckett. The relationship between Havoc and Beckett was fascinating and kind of enviable. Plus, I love learning about little-known military niches, and this one was super interesting.
Now, about the romance — Ella and Beckett gave me all the butterflies. I loved how their relationship grew naturally, how they got to know each other through conversation, how trust built slowly, and how satisfying it was when things heated up. By then, I felt their connection so much. And wow, the steamy scenes were incredibly hot. But honestly? It was their emotional bond that really made this book stand out for me.
There are some great side characters too — Ada and Larry, Hailey, Dr. Hughes, Emma — they didn’t have huge parts but added so much to the story.
This book truly captured my heart, tortured it at times, made me smile, and left me feeling exhausted but happy. I honestly loved it so much and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys emotional, heartfelt stories. I really enjoyed this read, and I think you will too! 😊

Read this with my girl Tara ! And i don’t think we could’ve chosen a sadder book. I didn’t realize just how sad this book was going to be until about five chapters in and from there, every couple of chapters it just kept getting heavier and heavier and heavier until I was crying every other chapter. I thought I was prepared, I expected the worst, but nothing could’ve braced me for that ending. It absolutely shattered me. This story is raw, beautifully written, and impossible to shake off. One of those books that lingers in the best and worst ways. Hands down one of the saddest books i’ve ever read and me and Tara are still trying to figure out how to recover from this
