I’ve read several of Alice’s books before and they’ve never disappointed me, but this one felt like it might be her best yet. So, I skipped the bargain Kindle version and went straight for the hardcover. As soon as I started reading, I knew I was right. Such an amazing book!
I began reading My Husband’s Wife around noon on a Sunday and honestly, I didn’t want to put it down. But I had to, because dinner was waiting for me. The whole time I was cooking and cleaning, I kept thinking about the characters, especially Birdy. I really loved Birdy, which is surprising because I don’t usually like “negative” characters. Her inner negativity made me care about her even more. Alice did such a fantastic job writing Birdy’s character — she’s mysterious, interesting, and so human. Birdy is angry about her situation, but you don’t know who, what, when, where, or why because the story gives you only tiny pieces of her life. Birdy is like a puzzle. Alice keeps us caring about her without letting us see the full picture, always holding back just enough to keep us guessing. That’s what makes this book so great — the mystery, the not knowing, and the feeling that you’re just out of reach of the truth. It’s so satisfying when Birdy suddenly becomes a character you didn’t expect, and even more exciting because you’re only halfway through the book with so much more to discover.
That Sunday night, when I sat down to keep reading, I realized I was already halfway through and I knew this book was going on my list of all-time favorites. I started reading a little slower, like savoring a decadent dessert I never want to end. I wanted to slow down and enjoy every page, but I also couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen, to piece everything together, and to finally understand the who, what, when, where, and why. The reveal was a huge “WOW!” — totally worth the wait.
I finished the book early Monday morning, less than 24 hours after I started. It’s one of those books you just can’t put down — a real page-turner. If life hadn’t made me responsible, I would’ve read it all in one sitting because it’s that good!
Everything about My Husband’s Wife was so enjoyable — the characters, the setting, the storyline, and the ending. I loved finally seeing the full picture after all the pieces came together. Truly, this book is amazing.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves psychological thrillers. I honestly think it’s a must-read! And I want to say, I recommend this audiobook too — I listened to it and it was fantastic. The narration really brought the story to life. I honestly think this is one of those books I’ll be thinking about for a long time. Alice Feeney did an incredible job, and I look forward to reading her next book!

this book is twist after twist after twist. somehow every time you think you’ve figured it out, there’s something new unraveling! multiple POVs, shifting timelines, unreliable everything, and a plot that constantly keeps you on edge without ever being too scary! plus I think it sticks the landing. with this many moving pieces, I couldn’t figure out how it all would come together but of course it did … With ease! she’s a mastermind! it’s tense, clever & ridiculously unpardonable.
